The Painter on the Streets

I use painting, printmaking, and video to explore the beauty, vulnerability, and humor of life in both urban and rural settings in Iran. In Tehran, I paint in public spaces. As an immigrant arriving in Tehran, the capital of Iran, I used representation to understand the underlying relationships of a hectic urban center.

I set up my easel on the streets, impersonating a masterful painter, to explore my socioeconomic position as an artist in the urban fabric of Tehran.

Back in the studio, I translate my experiences from the streets into bird’s-eye views of the city. I work on large canvases, capturing the strange logic and layered chaos of life in Tehran.

Prints

I use printmaking to reach a broader audience and make my work more accessible. By combining the fine lines of hard-ground etching with the grainy textures of aquatint, I explore urban life through a personal and critical lens. My prints aim to revive the role of traditional techniques in creating direct, thought-provoking conversations.
My latest series reflects the rhythm of my everyday life in Tehran—with all its sociopolitical ups and downs.

Rural Paintings

My family has been farming in the fields of Khorasan for generations.
For years, I’ve been visiting these lands and painting there during different seasons. I feel deeply connected to these fields because being there helps me understand how my family has sustained itself from this land. A part of who I am is tied to the plants that grow here.
